Points About Input from VARICAM Devices

Import and edit video shot on VARICAM devices on EDIUS.

The following explains points when using VARICAM devices to input/output video.

Points About Project Settings

When [TC preset] in the project settings is set to other than “00”, the sequence of active frame information may not match the TC at stream output.

[Project Settings] (Detailed Settings) Dialog Box

When the frame rate of the source does not match the frame rate of the project, the pitch is altered so that the audio speed is changed to keep up with playback duration. If necessary, make adjustments in the waveform editing software or the pitch shifter of the audio filter.

Registration of Device Presets

Before using VARICAM devices to input/output video, register VARICAM devices connected to the PC via the IEEE1394 interface in advance as device presets.

To connect the AJ-HD1200A via the IEEE1394 interface, the option board must be attached.

The following explains points when registering VARICAM devices as device presets. For details about the procedure for registering device presets and other information, see Registering Device Presets.

Registering Device Presets

When setting [Video Format] at [Input H/W, Format Settings] in the Preset Wizard, refer to the explanation about each of the following formats:

1280×1080 59.94i
1440×1080 50i

When importing from DVCPRO HD standard-compliant equipment, select the format that matches the respective frame frequency setting used when the video was shot.

960×720 59.94p

Use this when capturing sources taken with VARICAM without referencing active frame information or when capturing content taken with AJ-HDX900, for example, whose format signals are 720/59.94p, 720/29.97p or 720/23.98p.

960×720 Constant Rate Shooting over 60p
960×720 Constant Rate Shooting over 59.94p

Select a format that matches the respective VARICAM frame frequency setting used when the video was shot. Only frames set with active frame information are captured.

960×720 50p

Use this when capturing content taken with AJ-HDX900, for example, whose format signals are 720/50p and 720/25p.

Points About Capture and Editing

The following explains points and precautions about capture and editing.

The capture operation procedure is the same as that for other devices connected via the IEEE1394 interface.

Shooting Video Utilizing VARICAM Features

To utilize the features of VARICAM to create good-leaking slow motion and quick motion, the speed that will be required as a result of editing must be calculated in advance before shooting video. The playback speed is calculated by the following formula:

Playback speed (%) = frame rate of timeline÷frame rate at shooting×100

What Are Under Crank Shooting and Over Crank Shooting?
Under crank shooting

This refers to low-speed shooting by which warp effects and flashlight effects, and stage effects such as ghost effects can be obtained.

Over crank shooting

This refers to high-speed shooting by which stage effects using high image quality slow motion with smooth highly dense frame video can be obtained.

Points when Using Over Crank Shooting for Slow Motion
When Shooting for Slow Motion/Quick Motion Is Not Required

Select the 60p (59.94p) capture format.

When video is captured in this mode, playback is adjusted to keep real time at shooting. Since the original speed setting is also reflected in playback, both slow motion and quick motion are supported. However, this is not a method of effectively using the original performance of VARICAM.
