Insert/Overwrite Mode

Clips can be placed in either of the insert mode or overwrite mode.

Insert Mode

In the insert mode, if a clip exists at the position where you place a new clip, the new clip is inserted at the position, moving the existing clip backward.

Overwrite Mode

In the overwrite mode, if a clip exists at the position where you place a new clip, the new clip overwrites part of the existing clip overlapped by the new clip.

1Click [Toggle Insert/Overwrite Mode] on the mode bar.

Sync-Lock (Synchronization) and Ripple Mode

Sync-lock (synchronization) and ripple mode is useful when you want to edit a clip maintaining their relations with the other clips that have already been edited.

Sync-lock (Synchronization)

On the tracks with sync-lock set, the results of track editing such as inserting or moving a clip affect also other tracks.

Example:

When sync-lock is set to all 3 tracks and a clip has been added in the insert mode:

1Click on the lock panel of the track to which sync-lock is to be set.

An icon is displayed for the track with sync-lock set. Each click switches on/off the sync-lock.

Ripple Mode

In the ripple mode, when a clip is deleted or trimmed, the subsequent clips move forward to avoid spaces being formed on the timeline. When inserting a clip, you can move the subsequent clips while holding the space at the insert position. Only the clips on the track currently being edited move together.

Example:

When sync-lock is set to off on all 3 tracks and a clip has been inserted with the ripple mode on (insert mode)

Example:

When sync-lock is set on all 3 tracks and a clip has been inserted with the ripple mode on (insert mode)

1Click [Set Ripple Mode] on the mode bar.

Each click switches on/off the sync-lock.

A diagonal line appears on the icon when the mode is off.

The current mode ([Ripple On]/[Ripple Off]) is displayed on the status bar of the timeline.
