Renaming a GV STRATUS Core/Express server

Before doing this task, make sure you have the following files:
  • C:\Grass Valley\Rename SQL Users\ChangeServerName.bat
  • ChangeLowResServerName.bat

Also make sure you have a record of the server's network settings and the group/user/role licensing settings from GV STRATUS Control Panel.

This topic is for renaming a GV STRATUS server that has the role of GV STRATUS Core Services. The following GV STRATUS servers have the role of GV STRATUS Core Services:
  • GV STRATUS Express server
  • GV STRATUS Core server

Refer to related topics in this Topic Library as necessary to accomplish the following steps.

  1. In SiteConfig, change the host name of the server as follows:
    1. On the Network Configuration | Devices tab in the tree-view, select the server. In the Devices list view in the upper right area of the SiteConfig window, the server is displayed.
    2. In the Devices list view, right-click the server and select Edit. The Edit Device dialog box opens.
    3. In the Edit Device dialog box, change the host name.
Make sure that the name you change is the host name and that you update the display name appropriately. If you change the display name only, it does not change the host name. SiteConfig changes the name on the server and restarts the server.
  2. After the server is started up, in SiteConfig change the GV STRATUS Control Panel Services Host. The GV STRATUS Express server or GV STRATUS Core server whose name you are changing is typically the GV STRATUS Control Panel Services Host.
  3. In SiteConfig, save the system description.
  4. In K2Config, change the name of the GV STRATUS Control Panel Services Host.
  5. On the server you are renaming, in Computer Properties, change the computer name.
  6. On the server, run C:\Grass Valley\Rename SQL Users\ChangeServerName.bat. This makes the necessary changes to the MediaFrame database.
  7. If the server is a GV STRATUS Express server, on the server, run ChangeLowResServerName.bat.
  8. If the server is on a domain, remove the server from the domain, then add the server back to the domain.
  9. In SiteConfig, re-do the network setup, as follows:
    1. Remove the server from the system description.
    2. Add the server to the system description.
    3. Modify network interfaces.
    4. Configure credentials, if not using global credentials.
  10. In SiteConfig, verify setup for software deployment as follows:
    1. Make sure the server is added to the deployment group.
    2. Make sure the server has the proper roles configured.
  11. In GV STRATUS Control Panel change the server name in Authorization Manager licensing settings. Also verify group/user license assignments and reconfigure if necessary.
  12. If the server whose name you changed is the Ingest server, in GV STRATUS Control Panel change the server name in Ingest settings.
  13. In GV STRATUS Control Panel, click Tools | Core | STRATUS Core Services | General to open database server settings. An error is displayed indicating that the hostname cannot be found.
  14. Select the new server name from the STRATUS Database Server drop-down list and then click Save.
  15. Open MDI settings and verify that GV STRATUS Control Panel automatically updated the settings with the new server name correctly.
  16. If you changed the name of a GV STRATUS Express server, click Core | STRATUS Core Services | Primary Site and verify that GV STRATUS Control Panel automatically updated the settings with the new server name correctly.
  17. When logging in to the GV STRATUS application or the GV STRATUS Control Panel application, make sure the Control Panel Services Host is set to the new server name.
  18. Open the Proxy Config page. If an error is displayed, select the new Location of Assets and save your changes
  19. If your system includes GV STRATUS Rundown, do the following:
    1. Launch and save the Playout settings reference.
    2. Restart the SDB server.
  20. Update the database maintenance plan to use the new name.
  21. Change other networking settings for domain, host files, or otherwise as appropriate for your site.
  22. Update the Grass Valley Event Viewer machine list as follows:
    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | Event Viewer. Grass Valley Event Viewer opens.
    2. If a "Unable to access..." message opens, click OK.
    3. Click View | System.
    4. Click Edit Machine List.
    5. Add the new server name.
    6. Select the previous server name and click Remove.
    7. Click OK to save settings and close.
