Configuring CIFS Render Engine settings

Use this topic if your K2 storage is CIFS mount, rather than an iSCSI connected K2 SAN. A typical system of this type is a GV STRATUS Express server with K2 Summit standalone system as the K2 storage location. In this system the Render Engine software is hosted by the GV STRATUS Express server.

You also need to specify the maximum number of concurrent conform jobs and the maximum number of concurrent proxy encoder jobs allowed on the Render Engine server. Use these settings to balance resource load on the GV STRATUS Express server hosting the engine.

Refer to Render Engine Settings to set the maximum concurrent jobs settings.

Table 1. Maximum concurrent jobs settings on the GV STRATUS Express server
Job type XML attribute Maximum setting
EDIUS XRE XRE 1
Conform Engine Conform 1
Proxy Encoder Transcode 2
  1. On the system that hosts Render Engine software, configure GV Render Engine settings as follows:
    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | XREAdminConsole. XREAdminConsole opens.

    2. In XREAdminConsole, open GVRenderEngine. GVRenderEngine Setting opens. These values are populated automatically, based on settings in GV STRATUS Control Panel.
    3. If not already configured, on the XRE tab, make settings as follows.
      Table 2. XRE tab
      Setting Value
Node name As desired, enter a name for the local system that hosts Render Engine software. This name is displayed in the GV STRATUS application in reports that monitor render job status.
Server setting Click Setting and Add to add a Render Engine server:

Name: The name of the local system that hosts Render Engine software. It is recommended that you enter the machine name.

Address: The IP address of the local system that hosts Render Engine software.

Port: The port assigned for communication with the host system, as specified in GV STRATUS Control Panel EDIUS Settings. The default port number is 1223.

    4. Select the checkbox in the Name column.
    5. Click Connected test and verify that the connection is successful.
    6. On the STRATUS tab, click Connected test and verify that the connection is successful. These values are populated automatically, based on settings in GV STRATUS Control Panel.
    7. Click OK to save settings and close.
  2. If you are using the Render Engine software to render EDIUS projects, configure XRE Controller settings as follows:
    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | XREAdminConsole. XREAdminConsole opens.
    2. In XREAdminConsole, open XREController. XREController setting opens.

      Setting Value
Project folder The default location for your EDIUS XS projects, as specified in GV STRATUS Control Panel EDIUS Settings. This is a shared folder on K2 storage, for example \\k2-summit\EDIUS_Projects. Make sure this path uses the standard convention of UNC path with hostname (not drive letter or IP address) for EDIUS access to K2 storage.
Note: You must click Select, browse through the network to the K2 storage device, and select the folder in order to enter the path in the standard convention.
Port The port assigned for communication with the system that hosts Render Engine software, as specified in GV STRATUS Control Panel EDIUS Settings. The default port number is 1223.
Days to keep jobs in history As desired, the number of days to retain information about jobs. For example, enter 30 to specify 30 days.
    4. Click OK to save settings and close.
  3. If you have EDIUS Workgroup or EDIUS XS workstations, on the system that hosts Render Engine software configure Plug-in settings as follows:

These settings must be the same as those on your EDIUS Workgroup workstations. The settings identify the storage locations EDIUS accesses. In this case the K2 storage location is a K2 Summit standalone system.

    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | XREAdminConsole. XREAdminConsole opens.
    2. In XREAdminConsole, open Plug-in. Settings opens.
    3. In the Importer/Exporter tree-view, expand K2 (SAN) and select Server. Server settings open.
