Renaming a GV STRATUS Core/Express server
Note: Check DE11025 in the list of Known Problems in this Topic Library before doing this task.
Also make sure you have a record of the server's network settings and the group/user/role licensing settings from GV STRATUS Control Panel.
This topic is for renaming a
GV STRATUS server
that has the role of
GV STRATUS Core Services.
The following
GV STRATUS servers
have the role of
GV STRATUS Core Services:
Refer to related topics in this Topic Library as necessary to accomplish the following steps.

In SiteConfig, change the host name of the server as follows:
- On the Network Configuration | Devices tab in the tree-view, select the server. In the Devices list view in the upper right area of the SiteConfig window, the server is displayed.
- In the Devices list view, right-click the server and select Edit. The Edit Device dialog box opens.
- In the Edit Device dialog box, change the host name.
- After the server is started up, in SiteConfig change the GV STRATUS Control Panel Services Host. The GV STRATUS Express server or GV STRATUS Core server whose name you are changing is typically the GV STRATUS Control Panel Services Host.
- In SiteConfig, save the system description.
- In K2Config, change the name of the GV STRATUS Control Panel Services Host.
- If the server is on a domain, remove the server from the domain.
- On the server you are renaming, in Computer Properties, verify that the computer name is changed. If not, change it manually.
- On the server, run C:\Grass Valley\Rename SQL Users\ChangeServerName.bat. This makes the necessary changes to the MediaFrame database.
- If the server is a GV STRATUS Express server, on the server, run ChangeLowResServerName.bat.
- If you removed the server from a domain earlier in this procedure, add the server back to the domain.
- In SiteConfig, re-do the network setup, as follows:
- In SiteConfig, verify setup for software deployment as follows:
- Log on to GV STRATUS Control Panel, changing the server name in the log on dialog box.
- In GV STRATUS Control Panel change the server name in Authorization Manager licensing settings. Also verify group/user license assignments and reconfigure if necessary.
- In GV STRATUS Control Panel, verify that all settings are configured to the changed server name.
- Check MDI settings. If settings are lost, delete the existing MDIs and add them back using the original names.
- Check Proxy settings. If settings are lost, re-enter settings using the original settings.
- Check Engines settings. Make sure all configured engines are displayed.
- If your system includes GV STRATUS Rundown, do the following:
- Update the database maintenance plan to use the new name.
- Change other networking settings for domain, host files, or otherwise as appropriate for your site.

Update the Grass Valley Event Viewer machine list as follows:
- From the Windows desktop, click Start | All Programs | Grass Valley | GV Event Viewer. Grass Valley Event Viewer opens.
- If a "Unable to access..." message opens, click OK.
- Click Tools | Machines.
- Click Add to add the new server name.
- Select the previous server name and click Remove.
- Click OK to save settings and close.
