Enable TCP/IP protocol on Windows 2008 servers
You must enable the TCP/IP protocol if you are using Windows 2008 servers in your operation.

From the
Windows desktop click Start | All
Programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 | Configuration Tools | Sql Server
Configuration.
The Sql Server Configuration Manager opens.
- Go to SQL Server Network Configuration | Protocols for MSSQLSERVER.
- Right-click on TCP/IP from the list of protocols, and select Enable. The protocol status displays as Enabled.
- Close the Sql Server Configuration Manager and restart your servers.
