Move System and Media Drives into a New Assembly

These instructions are to move the system and media drives from the original K2 Central-Tx and place them into the new assembly to get a working K2 Central-Tx while preserving system configuration and media. It is recommended to work on a flat surface such as a desk, table or work bench..

  1. Ensure the original K2 Central-Tx has no editors, FTP or client activity. Stop any channel activity on K2 Central-Tx Clients and shut them down.
  2. Shut down the original K2 Central-Tx Server.
  3. Disconnect all cables and power from the original K2 Central-Tx chassis, keeping track in what position they were in.
  4. Label the media drives to preserve their order. Label the two system drives located in the rear next to the power supplies to distinguish what position they are in.

  5. Remove the media drives from the K2 Central-Tx chassis located in the rear of the chassis next to the power supplies. Remove the system drives from the K2 Central-Tx chassis.
  6. Remove the original K2 Central-Tx chassis from the rack or location.
  7. If needed place the rack mount rails on the new assembly chassis.
  8. Move the new assembly chassis to its location or rack.
  9. Connect all cables and power to the new assembly chassis, being careful to put them back in the same positions as on the original K2 Central-Tx chassis.
  10. Remove the two system drives that came with the new assembly chassis. Set them aside and return them with the old chassis.
  11. Place the two system drives from the original K2 Central-Tx chassis into the new assembly chassis. Be careful to place the drives in the same position as on the original K2 Central-Tx chassis.
  12. Place the media drives into the new assembly chassis. Be careful to place the drives in the same position as on the original K2 Central-Tx chassis.
  13. Power on the new assembly chassis.
  14. Logon as Administrator, password: Administrator password
  15. If you are asked if you want to discover other network devices answer “Yes”. This question may not always be asked.
  16. On the new K2 Central-Tx check to see that the system is operating correctly and that the V: drive has the expected media.
  17. Power on the K2 Central-Tx Clients. Confirm they are able to connect to the new K2 Central-Tx and operate. If client connections work then continue to the next step.
    1. If AppCenter on a K2 Central-Tx Client does not start open the LogViewer and check the log for the error condition of why it is not starting.
    2. If the log message is “Disk recorder restart required to handle reconnection” then restart the client.
    3. If the log message is “Disk recorder startup stalled until a “media” interface detects a K2 Central-Tx DHCP server” verify the 1Gb Ethernet cable is properly connected to one of the K2 Central-Tx 1Gb Ethernet ports.

    Also verify that the K2 Central-Tx DHCP server is running. To do this start the Server Manager on K2 Central-Tx.

    If there is an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle on the top bar then select it. This will bring up the DHCP Post-Install configuration wizard. Select “Commit” to make the needed changes. Confirm the client now has a connection to the K2 Central-Tx Server.

  18. Verify connections for editors and FTP connections are operational. Correct any network configurations that may have changed.
  19. Remove any temporary labels applied to identify drive order from the system and media drives.
  20. Use the assembly packaging to return the old K2 Central-Tx chassis with all parts and unused system SSDs back to the designated return depot.
