Production Packs Versus Composer Projects

In GV Director, you have been working with Production Packs. Each Production Pack that is used in GV Director starts as a project in Composer.

Composer Production Pack Elements

Transitions: define how to change from the video on program to the video to replace it with.

Templates: the separate timelines that are created to reveal or remove our effect elements (graphics, animations, etc.) from the program feed.

Effects: the combination of the Template timelines that make up the final effect.

A Production Pack is exported from Composer, but it is not the native format for Composer projects. A Composer project consists of a number of files and folders which you can open up at the finder level. So a Production Pack is a bit like a compressed or zipped version of a Composer project.

Composer File Types

When Composer projects are saved to disk they save as a .cpk file.

This file contains the timeline elements created inside the project as well as all graphic elements imported into the project.

When the project is exported for use with GV Director, all of these elements are compressed into a .ppk file. These .ppk files are the Production Packs used for effects and transitions.
