Summary of upgrade from version 6.0 to version 6.8

Several upgrade tasks are new or require special consideration with this upgrade. Apply upgrade tasks as appropriate for your system design, as follows:

• All systems:
  • SiteConfig: Before upgrading GV STRATUS, upgrade your SiteConfig application and Discovery Agent to the latest version. For more info, refer to Grass Valley products compatible with GV STRATUS.
  • Password encryption: To enable password encryption in GV STRATUS system after the software upgrade, you must run the Key Upgrade Utility on the GV STRATUS Core server. For more info, refer to Upgrade GV STRATUS system with the Key Upgrade Utility.
  • Summit MDIs: Summit MDI has been renamed to Grass Valley Media Server MDI type in the MDI Configuration settings of GV STRATUS Control Panel. You must reconfigure MDI settings for all K2 Summit Standalone, K2 SAN, K2 Central, and Third Party Storage systems in this release.   • GV STRATUS Proxy Streaming Server, GV STRATUS External Media Engine, and GV I/O Live Ingest and Playback Server SiteConfig roles: These new SiteConfig roles must be assigned to Express/Core server before upgrading the GV STRATUS system, if applicable.   • Simple Editor and Advanced Editor: After the upgrade, existing users and groups do not have these roles assigned in GV STRATUS Control Panel, so you must assign the role if needed. If you create new users and groups, the new role must be added or removed if appropriate. For more info, refer to GV STRATUS roles matrix.
  • GV STRATUS External Media Engine: GV STRATUS supports the deployment of External Media Engine on the GV STRATUS Core server, Workflow Server, or a separate server, to publish content and metadata to popular social media networks (such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) via Social Media CMS-Systems.   • GV STRATUS Proxy Streaming Server: GV STRATUS introduces the Proxy Streaming Server which supports frame accurate playback of proxy files in GV STRATUS Web Clients within an HTML5 standard browser. For more info, refer to Proxy Streaming Server set up process.
  • GV I/O Live Ingest and Playback Server: GV STRATUS introduces the GV I/O Live Ingest and Playback Server, a commodity hardware solution to support record and playback with up to four Recorder/Player channels, and baseband HD-SDI support via an on-board video card on standard IT hardware.   • DIVA Archive categories: GV STRATUS supports multiple DIVA archive categories with this release. The Diva Category Update Utility must be run on the GV STRATUS Core server after the software deployment. For more info, refer to DIVA Categories Add/Modify Field settings and Upgrade GV STRATUS system with the DIVA Category Update Utility.
  • GV STRATUS Rules Backup: If you exported an XML file backup of your actual rules before the upgrade, those rules cannot be used anymore once you upgrade to version 6.8 due to the new encryption support. You must import the XML file backup into GV STRATUS system after the upgrade. Then, export your rules again and re-import them to enable the encryption.   • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for VS 2017 install: All GV STRATUS servers, K2 Summit systems, and all client PCs hosting GV STRATUS application and/or EDIUS applications must install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for VS 2017.   • Microsoft .NET upgrade: All GV STRATUS servers, K2 Summit systems, and K2 Media servers must upgrade to .NET 4.7.1, if that version of .NET is not already installed. For more details, refer to Upgrade Microsoft .NET.
  • Internal system account: If the internal system account for your GV STRATUS system is on a fully qualified domain or is not the default GVAdmin account, configure settings at GV STRATUS Control Panel Core | STRATUS Core Services | Primary Site as appropriate for your system.
• Systems with Windows 2008 servers:
  • Requires an upgrade to Windows 2012 or Windows 2016 operating system. For more details, refer to Upgrade GV STRATUS server OS from Windows 2008/2012 to Windows 2016.
